The Sega Mega Drive or (Sega Genesis as it was known in North America) is a 16-bit video game console released by Sega in Japan in 1990, North America and the rest of the world in 1991. The reason Sega named it the Genesis in North America only was because Sega was unable to secure legal rights to the Mega Drive name in that region. The Mega Drive or Genesis had two addons: a CD-ROM drive called Mega CD and a 32-bit extension called the Sega 32X. The Genesis or Mega Drive had these tech specs:

  - FM chip (Yamaha YM 2612)
