SDLMAME 0.124

SDLMAME is a port of the popular MAME™. There are a few principles that guide it’s development: 1) run on Linux/Unix, Mac OS X, and other SDL supported operating systems with as few changes as possible to the base Win32 code. This means we can track changes faster than larger more conventional ports such as MacMAME, and we also maintain what I call “Firefox compatibilty” where learning a major app only needs to be done once per application, and it then applies across many operating systems. If you can use the command-line Win32 MAME, you already know how to use SDLMAME on any platform you may encounter it on. 2) MAME developers are important. By keeping quickly up to date, we make it easy for people on non-Windows platforms to make and submit changes to the core MAME code, and we offer native implementations of MAME’s multi-window GUI debugger on both Linux/Unix and Mac OS X. Download at our MAME page.

SDLMESS V0.124

Portable to anything remotely POSIX-y with SDL 1.2.11 or higher available. Note: the Win32 target is not intended to compete with baseline MESS – it’s simply a demonstration that SDLMESS works well with that OS. Download at our MESS page.

MESS V0.124

MESS is to computers and consoles as MAME is to arcade machines. i.e. It is an attempt to exactly emulate early computer and console systems. It is based primarily on the MAME source code so versions run in parallel to MAME. The reason MESS can use MAME as a basis is that most chips in computers and consoles are direct copies of arcade chips just connected a different way. In the guide you need to be aware of some terminology. If I use the word system it means the computer or console system being emulated. If I use the word BIOS it is meant to be for system roms or BIOS images used to get MESS working. Finally if I use the word software it means the rom/tape/disk etc… image to be loaded onto the system running in MESS. Download at our MESS page.

MAMEUI V0.124a

MAMEUI 0.124a (previously named MAME32) is a build of MAME with an integrated frontend. MAMEUI seems to be the popular choice for users of the MAME emulator, as its easier to deal with than a command link based version of MAME. This version of MAMEUI is available in both 32bit and 64bit versions. Download MAMEUI 0.124a at our MAME page.

MAME 0.124 released – then “recalled”

Earlier today, after a long development cycle, MAME 0.124 was released. However, Aaron Giles has “recalled” the release because it turns out a seemingly inncouous compiler fix that was included at the last minute in 0.124 busted the sound on quite a few games. For now, the release is recalled. MAME V0.124 full/fixed release however should be released with source and binary later this evening though (evening being in the USA, maybe early tommorow morning in your country).
