MAMEWIP News

Both Dox and Haze have posted their MAMEWIP developments for MAME:

Dox:

09.09.2007:

Mahjong attack .. both drivers are very preliminary.

Super Real Mahjong Part 5 (Seta)
Runs on weird as usually ..) hardware:
- main cpu: IDT R3560 (MIPS R3000 clone)
- video hw: custom Seta (another one … unique)
- sound hw: ST-0016 (used _ONLY_ for sound)

Super Real Mahjong Part 6 (Seta)
Different hardware than srmp5
- main cpu: M68000
- video/sound hw: custom Seta NILE (a bit similar to ST-0016, but lacks z80 core)
Whole gfx is compressed, and decompressed in hardware during DMA transfer.
Compression algo is _identical_ as CPS3 one used for 8bpp sprites.
(Special thanks to Haze for spotting similarities)
Interesting … Is cps3 hw designed by Seta engineers?
Or maybe it’s just well-known runlength compression algo put into silicon ?

Haze:

Astropal?

This was labeled as ‘Unknown Sidam Blister’ it appears to be a unique 8080bw based Asteroids clone called ‘Astropal’

Astropal?
Doesn’t quite work yet, inputs need mapping. I’ve asked stephh if he wants to look at it. Nice find anyway :-)
